Freight Board Definition
What is a freight board?
A freight board is an information exchange for companies in the freight transportation industry. A freight board will generally be configured to permit shippers, freight load brokers, 3PLs, and other intermediaries to post fright that need to be transported. Carriers, owner-operators, and trucking companies search freight boards to find freight for backhauls and to fill idles trucks. The freight board serves to increase efficiency for every type of company in the trucking industry.
In many cases freight boards also work in reverse, allowing carriers to post available trucks to be searched by freight brokers who have shipments in need of transport. Freight boards are available on the Internet and also on truckstop monitors. Freight boards are also known as Load Matching Services, Load Boards, and Freight Matching Sites.
